The Afrikan Student Union (ASU) exists to promote, protect, and serve the interest and educational rights of individual and collective needs of the African student body, and community within the context of the struggle for African liberation. Additionally, we support the ongoing work of campus organizations that provide for the specific needs of Afrikan people. Collectively, these entities comprise ASU’s Harambee Council of Organizations:
4Real H.O.P. Institute
Using Hip Hop culture to influence the academic and cultural development of Los Angeles area youth. The students will realize that there is another side to the misogynistic hip-hop and place an emphasis on positive and creative art.
Academic Support Program (ASP)
The student-initiated and student-run retention program designed to guide Black/African students to a successful college experience and graduation from UCLA. ASP also focuses on helping students with personal management skills, major choices, goal settings, class planning, academic difficulty, readmission work, and much more.
Afrikan Arts Ensemble (AAE)
AAE, the performing arts component of ASU is for students with a passion to express the Arts of African peoples, especially non-art majors. Performances are both entertaining and politically, culturally, and socially empowering. We teach as well as perform.
African Men’s Collective (AMC)
To create an environment that fosters development for the males of Afrikan descent on the campus. Also to bridge gaps with the female component, other communities on campus, and other communities off campus.
African Women’s Collective (AWC)
AWC provides a place for women to come together and discuss issues and topics relative to women of African descent. The African Women’s Collective shall also strengthen social ties, foster individual excellence and promote achievement within the community on the campus of UCLA and beyond.
African Education Project
African Education Project is a tutoring/mentoring program that seeks to enhance the lives and academic scores of the children who reside at New Wilmington Arms in Compton, CA through African empowerment and education and basic tutoring.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities.
Black and Latino AIDS (BLAIDS)
To promote the education and awareness of the risks and myths of HIV/AIDS, STI's and safe sex practices to black and latino youth in and around the Los Angeles Area.
Black Business Student Association (BBSA)
The Black Business Student Association is a student-run organization dedicated to uniting the business leaders of tomorrow with the opportunities that are made available today.
Black Campus Ministries (BCM)
BCM is a Bible study affiliated with InterVarsity Bruin Christian Fellowship where students can explore what it means to follow Jesus as a Black student on campus. We study the Word of God to see what it has to say about importance of culture, and our primary goal is to help students engage in a deeper relationship with Jesus.
Black Hypertension Project
Community based project designed to provide free blood pressure screenings in predominantly African American communities to educate people about the problem with hypertension in their community and to prevent the spread of this silent killer
Black Pre-Health Organization (BPHO)
Black Pre-Health is dedicated to increase the retention and matriculation of traditionally underrepresented pre-health students. It is our purpose to motivate and support students to pursue a health care profession and thus, increase the amount of minority and underserved representation in the health care field.
Black Pre-Law Association
Ultimately, we seek to assist the Black community by helping black students enter law school and receive the tools they need to bring about significant social progress.
BlaQue
BlaQue is a student organization under the Queer Alliance that focuses on issues with in the African American Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender community.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated
The purpose of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is to promote Sisterhood, Service & Scholarship under the Five Point Programmatic Thrust of the Sorority.
Habesha Student Association
The main objective of the Habesha Student Association is to provide a forum for young habesha’s to engage in sharing ideas, discussing issues, participating in community activities, and educating themselves about issues that affect each of us.
IMHOME
IMHOME seeks to provide the homeless population of greater Los Angeles with a social support network to help make the transition to life off the streets. We have reached out to homeless children by providing tutoring services for homeless children in South Los Angeles.

To encourage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor at UCLA since 1923.
National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)
Unanimity of thought and action as far as possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities and to consider problems of mutual interest to its member organizations.
National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.
Nigerian Student Association (NSA)
To promote cultural awareness among UCLA faculty and students about the Nigerian heritage. To educate the UCLA community on the diversity of the Nigerian culture and bring together people who share a common interest in the culture.
NOMMO Magazine
NOMMO is a student run magazine that investigates and reports on issues concerning the social, political, cultural, and economic states of African peoples in Los Angeles, the Nation and Worldwide. As the first Black magazine on any college campus, NOMMO's mission is to continue to inform and inspire the minds that will build on the legacy that defines our past and determines our future.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority's aim is to enhance the quality of life within the community. Public service, leadership development and education of youth are the hallmark of the organization's programs and activities.
Students Heightening Academic Performance Through Education (SHAPE)
The student-initiated and student run outreach program, created to have K-12 African American students matriculate into institutions of higher education, with a focus on holistic development. SHAPE offers tutoring, peer advising, mentorship and various workshops to ensure African American numbers can ultimately increase on the collegiate level.
